At 26 weeks

It was early Sunday morning, one week after Raya.

Gen took me to the GH immediately when I told him I bled. Not really bleeding but the stain was there and it just got bigger and more visible every time I check up on it. And yes, I was really scared.

I cried the whole way to the GH and Adam looked at me suspiciously. He did not say a word but I know he’s concerned about me. Gen also kept quiet. It was an awkward silent journey to the GH.

As it is Sunday, there are not enough doctors around to attend to me. They just conveniently drip my wrist and roll me into the ward. At the ward, we waited, but still no doctor around. At first, Adam refused to lie on my bed but he was so sleepy that he almost fell off the chair, snoring. Maybe he was scared that we’ll leave him alone once he sleeps. Finally, Adam napped peacefully on my bed until 6 pm.

Gen decide that he’ll come back later with my stuff as I obviously have to sleep over in the GH. Gen waited with me from 9pm to 10.30pm but still, no doctor around. The doctors finally attend me at 11.32pm (gosh, can you believe that?). I might have bled to death. Actually, as the bleeding had stop after lunch, I did not worry so much. Otherwise, I would have asked Gen to take me to a private clinic immediately.

The scan showed that the baby’s ok, healthy and kicking. The doctor said I have to get enough rest and loosen up, (quote and unquote). I called Gen later to inform him and he was really unsatisfied with the doctor’s explanation. The next day, Gen took me to a private clinic after I was discharged.

The doctor checks me thoroughly. I didn’t know that they can check up on the baby’s heartbeat, inflow and outflow through my umbilical cord, and when baby moves, they can see if the movement is regular or not. They can calculate the percentage of the water in my womb and by infra red, I can actually see the baby’s lung inflate and deflate. I am so amaze by all this, plus they have it in colours and I can actually see the baby’s face (its in 3D!). We can even hear the sound of the baby’s heartbeat and occasional sound of water (like swimming) on the speaker. All the others are just the usual lah. The baby is really shy that it is hard for us to peek at its gender. The doctor ask me to tap my stomach a few time and finally the baby moves a bit and Gen exclaims “baby girl!” and the doctor nods his agreement.
